Kriya Yoga is a non-sectarian practice that helps people of all religions to discipline themselves and to progress more deeply on their own spiritual path.

“The body is a treacherous friend. Give it its due; no more. Pain and pleasure are transitory; endure all dualities with calmness, trying at the same time to remove yourself beyond their power. Imagination is the door through which disease as well as healing enters. Disbelieve in the reality of sickness even when you are ill; an unrecognized visitor will flee! ”

Charity without Ego

Paramahamsa Hariharananda Charity is a noble act. Many people do not experience know the beauty in it. There is a joy of unity, and love in serving, as one feels the person served is my own or even me in a different form. Charity opens the heart, broadens the mind, and brings union of the soul. However, if one is not careful, even in charitable activities, one can develop ego and pride and the desire for public recognition. This boosts self-promotion and self-aggrandizement. Charity is a special spiritual practice that should be done in a loving and caring way and, if possible, in a silent manner.

Gurudev from his childhood was trained by his mother to be kind towards others and to serve them in a humble way. He maintained this attitude until the last part of his life. He directly served or helped others in different ways. Sometimes he helped people without giving any trace of information about who was helping. Once he told the author, (Swami Prajnanananda) "I have seen so much misery and suffering of people, that I get a million dollars today, I could use it in their service." He prayed for those who were suffering whether they were disciples or not; if he heard about their troubles, he prayed for them. Praying for others is also a special charity.

Gurudev said, "You should help a person in such a way that others should not know of your help. Even the left hand should not know what the right hand is doing." Through his love and inspiration, countless poor students were helped to study, numerous sick people were treated, and homes were built for money; he showed the path to innumerable people. He often said, "This life is a gift of God and its utilization is in serving the creation of God and realizing the truth of life."
